Molly's Needles

My adventures in knitting... and a few other things thrown in for fun.

I got back into knitting because of the Harry Potter scarves and sweaters. Although I knit other items, replicating HP-wear remains my first love.

That blasted baby blanket, a slight reprieve and Weasley sweater goodness!

Been working on the BBBB from Stitch 'n Bitch. I swear the thing unknits itself while I'm sleeping! I need it for next Sunday, so 2 more balls of yarn and I'm done. Since it's going to be dragged around by the rugrat, I don't think I'm even going to bother blocking. Nice decision since I won't have the time. :)

The scarves don't need to be done until November 12th, so there's a bit of pressure off on getting them finished. I did get a few more stripes done, so we're at the half-way point on all three. Remind me to give this pattern a rest for a bit after that.

When I got home my yarn for my Weasley sweater was waiting on the step for me. Loving the green with blue, yellow and red neps in it. I've got a basic sweater pattern that I'm using. The only change I'm going to make on it is to do a k2p2 rib instead of k1p1. Since the whole thing is going to be oversized and meant to look like it came hurridly off Molly's needles for the kids, it isn't supposed to look like something from a department store. So if it's a bit lumpy or whatever, so much the better. I may take a break from the Blanket That Will Not End to cast on for the sweater tonight. Only problem was that the one skein of yellow was backordered. However, since I'm duplicate stitching, I won't need it until the whole thing is put together. Woohoo! This may even help me forget about the nasty cold I caught that has completely taken out my voice. Thank goodness I don't need that to type or knit!

Oh, also, back on track with the Celtic Cross. I had an "oh damn!" moment while doing the outline to one of the arms and had to back out 2 hours of work, but that's done and everything is progressing nicely on it. I'm thinking there will be minimal backstitching on that one, too. Not liking all the individual stitches lined in red. Too...much. Blending colors is very nice.

Off to Weasley sweater happiness!

I am so sorry I haven't been here in a bit! Unfortuantely, the reason is that I really haven't done anything.

Three scarves that I need to finish for someone are stalled. Rainy day today, so I hope I can get a bit done. I need to finish them before the end of the month.

I did get my Harry Potter cross-stitch chart. The text is in French, but since I already know how to stitch, I don't think that will be a problem. I even went through and decided on the motifs I want for my little throw (it's afghan cloth about the size of a baby quilt). I think it'll be cute and a perfect after-holiday project.

Just got an e-mail from Yarnware saying that the Galway Butter is backordered. They are sending the Hunter Green, though. Since I'm duplicate stitching the letter on after the sweater is complete, that shouldn't be a problem. Hopefully I can get my Weasley sweater done before the knit-along is over!

Other than that, just preparing for winter. I've still got a lot of holiday stuff to finish, as well as work on my house. Should keep me busy for quite a while.

I've been a bit lax in posting here, haven't I?

Unfortunately, I have no finished objects to post pictures of (really need to get off my butt on that), which may be my reason for going into hiding. Many pardons, all!

I received my two cross-stitch kits last night. The Celtic Cross is going to be gorgeous; all golds and greens and reds and blues. Lovely. The Kat is very cute. I may even take that to work with me, as the pattern isn't too complex. Too bad I only got one hoop. I really wish I knew what happened to my old ones.

Remember how I said I wouldn't order anything else for a while? I said yarns, fibers and stuff like that, right? Booklets don't count so I didn't really break my vow. That being said, I found a booklet of Harry Potter cross-stitch designs. It's put out by DMC and is out of print now, but I found a company in England that has it. They shipped it out Monday and I am hoping to get it in a week or so. I also have some afghan cloth that is all fringed and ready to be stitched. I think I'll do some of the smaller motifs when I get the booklet- Snitches, brooms, owls, etc. What a cute little throw that will make!

All right. I've rambled about nothing for long enough. I'll have pictures of something next time. Even if it's just me or my cat. Then you can look at the pictures and not have to read my rambles. :)

I'm going to lock up my computer and throw away the key!

Or at least my internet connection which permits me to shop online.

Why this attitude, you ask? Because my Craft OC has struck again. The other day I mentioned how I ordered yarn for a Weasley Sweater (I've decided to put a "W" on the front of it for Witch), which is all right because it's really one of the reasons that I began knitting again. Yesterday I was surfing a needlework site and found some wonderful counted cross-stitch kits. This is something I have done for about 20 years, but got away from in the last year or so.

Anyway, I ordered a really cute one of a black cat in a manger and another of a Celtic Cross. That one will be for my mother and step-father. Ireland is very special to them, both because my mother's family is from there and also because that's where they got married. So, the Cascade will stay in my stash for a bit longer. Maybe to end up as something for me.

So, I hereby put myself on a fiber diet. No more yarn, floss, rovings or anything else related to crafts until I finish what I've started!

Now if I can only get myself to stick to it! ;)
